When logging in to Pokémon GO, you may receive the error message “Unable to authenticate” or “Failed to log in.” If you log in to the app using a Pokémon Trainer Central account, please try the following steps to troubleshoot this issue. If you use another login method, please see Niantic’s Pokémon GO Help Center.
- Navigate to Pokemon.com and attempt to log in to your Pokémon Trainer Central account. If you can successfully log in, it means that there is no issue with the credentials you used.
- While logged in to your Pokémon Trainer Central account, check that you have authorized Niantic Inc. (Pokémon GO) to link to your account. You may enable or revoke access to the app at any time by changing the setting on your own or your child’s Pokémon Trainer Central account under Authorized Apps or Pokémon GO Settings.
- Ensure that your device’s operating system is up to date and that you have the latest version of Pokémon GO.
- If you are using a VPN, please disable it.
- Reboot your device, close apps that may be running in the background, and then try to log in again.
- If you are using an Android device, clear Pokémon GO’s app cache by navigating to Settings > Apps > Pokémon GO > Clear Cache.
- If you are using an iOS device, delete the app and install it again.
- Some users have resolved this issue by changing their account password and trying again.
