What is multifactor authentication?
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a security feature that protects your Pokémon Trainer Central account. Multifactor authentication is a layered approach to securing data and applications where a system requires you to present a combination of two or more credentials to verify your identity for log in.
Multifactor authentication provides additional security. If one credential becomes compromised, unauthorized users will be unable to meet the second authentication requirement and will not be able to access the targeted user account.
What will happen once I enable multifactor authentication?
Once multifactor authentication has been enabled on your Pokémon Trainer Central account, you will enter your username and password, and then the passcode from your chosen authenticator app each time you log in to your Pokémon Trainer Central account.
If you enable multifactor authentication and use your Pokémon Trainer Central account to log in to apps such as Pokémon GO, Pokémon UNITE, or Pokémon TCG Live, you will be prompted to use multifactor authentication.
Which Pokémon Trainer Central accounts are eligible to enable multifactor authentication? Can I enable MFA on a child account?
Multifactor authentication is available for all Pokémon Trainer Central accounts, including child Pokémon Trainer Central accounts.
How does multifactor authentication work with a child account?
Once multifactor authentication has been enabled on a child Pokémon Trainer Central account, the child will enter their username and password, then the passcode from the chosen authenticator app each time that they log in to their Pokémon Trainer Central account.
The authenticator app may be the child’s own authenticator app, or it may be the same as the parent’s. Keep in mind that the multifactor authentication passcode must be entered before it expires and a new code is generated.
Am I required to use multifactor authentication to log in to my Pokémon Trainer Central account?
