What is a TCGL Child Account, and how do I sign up my child for it?
A Child Account is a version of Pokémon TCG Live that complies with COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) and CARU (Children’s Advertising Review Unit). Child Accounts are a way for players who have not yet reached the digital age of consent in their region to play Pokémon TCG Live.
For Child Account players, certain cosmetic items may not be available for purchase. In addition, features leading to external links that are not directly related to Pokémon TCG Live are excluded.
Signing up your child for a Child Account in Pokémon TCG Live
In order for a child to access Pokémon TCG Live, a parent or guardian must first create a Pokémon Trainer Club account and then create a child account. For more information, see our article How do I add a child to my Pokémon Trainer Club account?
How is a Child Account different than the typical Pokémon TCG Live experience?
Child Accounts do not have advertising pop-ups such as those for events. Shop items that promote real-world Pokémon TCG events will be unavailable in the shop for Child Account players. However, if a Child Account player obtains an item at an event, it is still possible for the Child Account player to redeem and use the item in-game.
In order to encourage children to use the version of the game that aligns with their age range, the differences between a regular account and a Child Account are intended to be subtle. This is to avoid situations where children understand that they are playing a version of the game that has less functionality.
Does Pokémon TCG Live have a chat or other player-to-player communication feature?
Pokémon TCG Live does not have any text or voice chat features. The only communication available to players is through select emoticon reactions anyone can use during gameplay.
When does a Child Account age up to a regular account?
Once the Pokémon Trainer Club account holder reaches the digital age of consent for their region, their account will automatically age up from a Child Account to a regular Pokémon TCG Live account.
Can Child Account players access in-game items in the store?
Child Account players will have access to the in-game store, where they can obtain a limited selection of items by spending the currency they earn by playing. Even though Child Account players have a limited selection of items to choose from, they will still be able to see other players using other items during matches.
Can my child trade cards in-game with other players?
Players cannot trade cards with other players within Pokémon TCG Live.
